Is Your Email Marketing Getting Caught by Spam Filters?

Authenticate your Domain

Is your Email Marketing Getting Caught by Spam Filters? Or has your bounce rate increased ? Or your open rate decreased?

Google is implementing new rules that may be impacting your email marketing success. This is to stop spammers from using Gmail. This will impact you if you use Google Workspace for your business or you  have gmail email addresses in your email marketing database.

Regardless of which email marketing platform you need to authenticate your domain. This tells spam filters that mailchimp or mailerlite or Klayvio or “insert your email marketing programme here” is authorised to send emails on your behalf.

This requires you to add DNS records to your domain settings. Click on the links below for your email marketing platform to get the instructions on how to do this. If your email programme is not listed below, then google “how to authenticate my domain for [your email marketing platform]”

DMARC

No I am not talking another language. Some email marketing providers will not tell you to add records for DMARC.

If you can not see anything in your DNS settings with _dmarc you need to add a TXT record in your DNS. Make sure you change it to your domain.

Name:
_dmarc.yourdomain.co.nz.
Value:
v=DMARC1; p=policy; pct=100

DKIM Records

If you use Google Workspace you need to add DKIM records to your account.

Follow DKIM instructions for Google Workspace here

If you have no idea what DNS records are or how to access them, contact your domain or website hosting provider. They should be able to help you.

Or reach out for a one-on-one with me. If you’re in Rotorua or Taupo we can do it in person. Otherwise we can do it over zoom. Email me and let me know what you need help with.
